Book Love Club - Reading lists

I always feel like I need to hide or explain that fact that I am always reading Young Adult Paranormal Fiction books. I have always loved Fantasy Fiction, even as a child I loved The Littlest Witch, and Ms. Switch, in 6th grade I found The Hobbit, and immediately after read The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, then every JRR Tolkien book I could get my nerdy little hands on.

Check out my list and let me know what you think of the book or if you have any others I should at to My Reading List.

My Reading List

This is a short (shorter than it could be) list of books I am planning to read soon. I'll try to share the good reads listing if possible or list a bit of what I know about the book and where I heard of it or who peaked my interest in it.

Reading Now

Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta  - Goodreads Listing   Taylor is leader of the boarders at the Jellicoe School. She has to keep the upper hand in the territory wars and deal with Jonah Griggs - the enigmatic leader of the cadets, and someone she thought she would never see again.

On my Short List

A few of these I have to admit are already patiently waiting on my nightstand or coffee table.

Allegiant by Verionica Roth  (Divergent series #3) -  Goodreads Listing The faction-based society that Tris Prior once believed in is shattered—fractured by violence and power struggles and scarred by loss and betrayal. So when offered a chance to explore the world past the limits she’s known, Tris is ready. Perhaps beyond the fence, she and Tobias will find a simple new life together, free from complicated lies, tangled loyalties, and painful memories.

Late to the show I heard lots about it but I finally started because I want to finish series before I see the movie.

Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo -  Goodreads Listing  The Shadow Fold, a swathe of impenetrable darkness, crawling with monsters that feast on human flesh, is slowly destroying the once-great nation of Ravka.
Alina, a pale, lonely orphan, discovers a unique power that thrusts her into the lavish world of the kingdom’s magical elite—the Grisha. Could she be the key to unravelling the dark fabric of the Shadow Fold and setting Ravka free?

Hourglass by Myra McEntire - Goodreads Listing For seventeen-year-old Emerson Cole, life is about seeing what isn't there: swooning Southern Belles; soldiers long forgotten; a haunting jazz trio that vanishes in an instant. Plagued by phantoms since her parents' death, she just wants the apparitions to stop so she can be normal. She's tried everything, but the visions keep coming back.

Beautiful Creatures (whole series) by Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl -  Goodreads Listing There were no surprises in Gatlin County.  We were pretty much the epicenter of the middle of nowhere.  At least, that's what I thought.  Turns out, I couldn't have been more wrong.  There was a curse.  There was a girl.  And in the end, there was a grave.

I've heard a lot about it but thought it would be to tween love story-ish for me but I saw the movie and now have to read them all!

The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman - Goodreads Listing Sussex, England. A middle-aged man returns to his childhood home to attend a funeral. Although the house he lived in is long gone, he is drawn to the farm at the end of the road, where, when he was seven, he encountered a most remarkable girl, Lettie Hempstock, and her mother and grandmother. He hasn't thought of Lettie in decades, and yet as he sits by the pond (a pond that she'd claimed was an ocean) behind the ramshackle old farmhouse, the unremembered past comes flooding back.

Cousin recommend Neverwhere a few years ago I loved it and this is his newest book.

Books I Love and recommend.

Some of these I think everyone should read and some may just be for some of us who love these genres.

The Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness - Authors Website When historian Diana Bishop opens a bewitched alchemical manuscript in Oxford’s Bodleian Library it represents an unwelcome intrusion of magic into her carefully ordinary life. Though descended from a long line of witches, she is determined to remain untouched by her family’s legacy. She banishes the manuscript to the stacks, but Diana finds it impossible to hold the world of magic at bay any longer.

I found this fantastic book at Barnes and Noble when I was just browsing. It is probably my favorite book that I read for the first time as an adult. I have since read the second book in the series The Shadow Night and anxiously await the third out this summer The Book of Life.

The Giver by Lois Lowry -  Goodreads Listing Jonas' world is perfect. Everything is under control. There is no war or fear or pain. There are no choices. Every person is assigned a role in the Community. When Jonas turns twelve, he is singled out to receive special training from The Giver. The Giver alone holds the memories of the true pain and pleasure of life. Now, it is time for Jonas to receive the truth. There is no turning back.

This book was being protested by some parents for being on my stepsons 8th grade reading list because they though it promoted abortion and euthanasia. (insert smirk here)
I also highly recommend Lowry's Gathering Blue, The Messenger, and Son all related books but not quite a series.

Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman -  Goodreads Listing Under the streets of London there's a place most people could never even dream of. A city of monsters and saints, murderers and angels, knights in armour and pale girls in black velvet. This is the city of the people who have fallen between the cracks.

This book was recommended by my cousin. This is a fascinating book! If your looking for something different and really intense this is it. And interestingly enough not YA.

Need  (#1 series) by Carrie Jones - Goodreads Zara collects phobias the way other high school girls collect lipsticks. Little wonder, since life’s been pretty rough so far. Her father left, her stepfather just died, and her mother’s pretty much checked out. Now Zara’s living with her grandmother in sleepy, cold Maine so that she stays “safe.” Zara doesn’t think she’s in danger; she thinks her mother can’t deal.Wrong. Turns out that guy she sees everywhere, the one leaving trails of gold glitter, isn’t a figment of her imagination. He’s a pixie—and not the cute, lovable kind with wings. He’s the kind who has dreadful, uncontrollable needs. And he’s trailing Zara.

I was recommended this series from some theater friends, and fell in love. I've read all 4 Need, Captivate, Endure, Entice, and I really really hope she continues this series. I'm in love!

Switched by Amanda Hocking - When Wendy Everly was six years old, her mother was convinced she was a monster and tried to kill her. It isn't until eleven years later that Wendy discovers her mother might have been right.

With the help of Finn Holmes, Wendy finds herself in a world she never knew existed - a world both beautiful and frightening, and Wendy's not sure she wants to be a part of it.

I found the Trylle Trilogy while surfing the Nook free book. Amanda Hocking was self publishing and I think I got Switched free and then paid between $.99 to 2.99 for Torn and Ascend. My awesome husband a year or so later bought me all three hardbacks and the first book in the Watersong Series by Hocking for Valentines day a few years ago when she was picked up by a big publisher and made it into good'ole Target.  I recommend this book to all fans of YA Paranoraml. Take a break from the Vamps for a bit! #lovemyguy  #loveamandahocking #lovetarget #lovesmartpublishers

Angels Dawn by Komali de Silva Goodreads Listing - Dawn Huntington wants what every girl wants, a sweet sixteen birthday party with her friends, family, and some hot boys, but fate has other plans. On the night of Dawn's sixteenth birthday, she witnesses a crime she can't turn her back on, and the decisions she makes that night will change her life forever.

I was asked to read this bood for review by the author through Mackable Book Babes. I recommend this book to anyone looking for a captivating story and a change from the cookie cutter paranormal coming out everyday. The good old fashion protagonist you can like doesn't hurt. MY REVIEW

  4. OMG-we have the EXACT same tastes in books. I too feel like I have to hide what I'm reading, because I think people will look at me strange if they knew a 38 yr old woman was reading paranormal romance and thrillers! I have a backlog of books to read, like the Trylle trilogy, the whole Beautiful Creatures series, Night World series, etc. I need to buy Discovery of Witches because I've been wanting to read it for a long time now. Did you like it?
